Tracking Wild Boar in the Czech Republic

In the very begining of the year, we received an email from one of our readers which said:

"I receive some very nice pictures. You can see young male called Demon tracking shoted porky. True working dogs are not very often in Czech republic. So I am very happy that I can send you this pictures.
Demon is son of Xingu2 do Itanhandu (Vulcao2 do Ibituruna x Holy do Alto Quatis) and famous czech female Angelika Salve Floresta (Dragon de Los Tres Naranjos x Henna de Los Tres Naranjos).
My best regards
Jerry *"
Demon, sitting next to his prize boar, a natural born young hunting & tracking dog dog from the Ze Skalniho Kaje Kennel [Rock Landscape], made his owners proud by successfully tracking down his second wild boar on the forth day of the New Year. Similar to the Dogo Argentino, the Fila Brasileiro also has the appropriate body structure for boar hunting.

There are two types of wild boars in the Czech Republic and Slovakia: the Sus scrofa scrofa and Sus scrofa atilla. The difference between them is color, growth and shape.
Although they are free ranging animals, the PH [chief forest manager] has detailed knowledge of every single animal, including the mouflon and the roe deer, written in a yearly updated logbook. The Chief Forest Manager and his collegues sit out at nights and make observations on wildlife. One experienced hunter has said that was the most impressive log keeping he had ever seen and that such professional forestry service is only available in Hungary.

Hunting is permitted in the Czech Republic, however only dogs having less than 55cm. in length can be off leash and flush boars in the bush and woods. Larger dogs can be held on long lead and can be used for tracking shot animals.
The boar that Demon tracked, had run off for another kilometer after it was shot. Demon does not have formal training for tracking, but demonstrated natural ability and excellent olfaction by finding the wild boar very quickly. Demon lives with his owners Mr & Mrs Kratochvilova.
All photos were taken by Mrs. Dagmar Kratochvilova.
a pigs foot, his reward for a job well done!
